  1. What is Industrial Engineering?

     2. What do Industrial Engineers do?

Industrial engineers benefit from engineering analysis and design methods, as well as specialized knowledge and skills in mathematics, computer, social and natural science in order to plan the processes in the most efficient way, and to predict, determine and evaluate the results in the systems they work on.      3. Is it true that Industrial Engineering is a non-math department?

Industrial engineering is a branch of engineering that examines the whole system, not the part. The most important feature is that it always considers the human factor. Thus, it is also intertwined with the social sciences, besides its relationship with the basic natural sciences. Indeed, it is not a non-math department. A large part of the curriculum consists of courses that require knowledge and use of mathematics. For example, Operations Research, one of the most important field courses of the department, is on mathematical modelling.   1. What does 30% English curriculum mean?
 30% English curriculum means that at least 3 out of every 10 courses in the curriculum are taught in English. In the curriculum of our department, especially the field courses are offered in English to help our students gain the ability to understand and speak the language of the profession, which is unlikely to be acquired by attending language courses.      6.  Is there a compulsory English preparatory program in Samsun University Industrial Engineering Department?

Since the 30% of our curriculum is taught in English, a one-year compulsory preparatory program is applied as stated in the ÖSYM preference guide. Compulsory English Preparatory Program education is given by the Department of Foreign Languages at Samsun University Canik Campus. The duration of the preparatory class is not included in the 4-year education of the department.

     7. How can I be exempt from the Compulsory English Preparatory Program? 

There are two possible conditions for newly enrolled students to be exempt from the English Preparatory Program: (1) To document that they have been successful in one of the national and/or international foreign language exams at the level determined by the university; or (2) to be successful in the English Proficiency Exam conducted by the Department of Foreign Languages at the beginning of the semester, getting a score of 60 and above

The level of English for the students who do not get the required point is determined according to the score they get from the English Proficiency Exam and they are placed in preparatory classes accordingly.

     10. In which departments can I do a double major education while studying at Samsun University Industrial Engineering Department?

Our department has the opportunity to do a double major in the Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering and Biomedical Engineering departments of the Engineering faculty, as well as in the departments of Aerospace Engineering and Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences Faculties.

     11. Is there an ERASMUS opportunity in Samsun University Industrial Engineering Department?

Samsun University Industrial Engineering Department can encourage the students to go abroad within the scope of both learning mobility and internship mobility within the scope of Erasmus Programme. While we prepare our students for their careers with basic engineering and practical field courses with our 30% English curriculum, we also provide an opportunity to practice their technical knowledge in laboratories and summer internships.
